2nd Annual Thanksgiving Dinner
As we gather this season to celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving, we are excited to announce the 2nd Annual SUUYT Thanksgiving Dinner on November 23, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Nativity Prep Boston, 39 Lamartine Street, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130. Last year, this event brought together over 200 newly arrived Haitian immigrant families, offering them their very first Thanksgiving celebration.
Our first event was more than a meal—it was a chance to bridge cultures and foster meaningful connections. Haitian flavors and American traditions came together on one table: a Haitian-style turkey, diri djondjon (mushroom-infused black rice), and salade russe—a colorful dish of beets, potatoes, and carrots. It was a feast that embodied unity, care, and community.
Beyond the Meal: Holistic Support for Families
At SUUYT, we strive to nourish both body and soul. Along with the festive meal, each family received a bag of essential items including:
Feminine hygiene products
Warm coats for children
Personal care essentials
This gesture demonstrated our commitment to helping newly arrived families feel welcomed and supported. As one attendee, Junior Amilca, expressed:
"I feel proud to partake in my first Thanksgiving. I had always heard about Thanksgiving. And now I’m not hearing about it—I’m living it."
